August 2nd, Last Day of Cosmos

I'm really sad to say that today is the last day of my COSMOS experience. I've truly enjoyed this program, learned a lot, and met a lot of amazing people. I want to say thank-you to everyone who has dedicated their time and effort to ensure the success of this program. I will definitely miss everyone in my cluster, my suite, and anyone else I've met along the way.

Seventeen

During the week, my Solar Powered Magnetic Car Engine group(Sharon, Allen, Gabby) and I worked really hard practicing and researching during our free time for our group proposal presentation, but the hard work definitely paid off. I learned a lot about solar energy and the inefficiency of traditional cars, and found the topic to be intriguing. The Friday afternoon question/answer session was helpful because the teacher fellows gave the students a better understanding of college, grad school, and just studying science and engineering in general.

Yesterday was my seventeenth birthday, and I had a really pleasant day. The San Diego Zoo was exciting, and at night, my wonderful suite mates and friends threw me a surprise party. There were balloons, thick chocolate cake, candy, decorations, and everything. I'm excited about going to the beach again this afternoon! It's crazy to realize I'm already seventeen, and also that there's less than a week left of COSMOS. Time flies.

Back to COSMOS.

I got to go home for the weekend and visit with my family. I was really tired over the weekend so I was glad that I was able to rest. Seeing my nephews and niece again was nice. I had fun playing with them. Over the weekend I went to get my eyebrows and nails done. Later that day I went to the mall to look around and shop. I could use some more sleep which I will definitely do at lights out today. When I returned to COSMOS I felt like I had been gone for more than just a day. I brought my laptop! Yay! I really needed it. Back to the daily schedule. I hope this week will be fun. I am sure it will be because the activities at night always are. Okay I have to go back to working on my final project with Esther. Later!

The Third Week

Over the weekend, I went home and spent time with my family. It felt strange coming back to this environment yesterday night, but I was excited see all of my friends again and hear what they've been up to. This morning, the professor gave an exciting lecture on the properties of stars. Then, we walked over to the computer lab to research topics like the sun, E=MC2, and "Forbidden Atomic Lines." I am looking forward to the activities planned for tonight as well as working on the Ripple Tank with Sharon.

The Dance

So yesterday was the first COSMOS dance that we had. It was pretty fun, with a lot of dancing, and water guns. Then the music when downhill, they decided to play techno, and then the audio stopped working. After the music was fixed, then everything was better.

Palomar Observatory

The trip to the Palomar Observatory was quite interesting. There was of course ups and downs to the trip, but overall the trip was fun. I did not expect the weather to be so hot up in the mountain. Although we had to stop about six or seven times to cool off the bus engine, we arrived safely at the observatory. Instead of just looking at the telescope through a window, my cluster had a great opportunity to go inside the same room the telescope was in. The room stayed at cool and constant temperature. It turns out that the weather can really affect how the telescope works. We walked on the side of the upper half of the observatory. Being so high up was a bit scary especially because the ground did not seem stable and I was on crutches. However, the view from up above was just beautiful. I took a really cool elevator back down to the first floor and was able to see the bottom of the telescope. On our way back from the trip we stopped once again in the bus because the breaks were overheated. Everyone was exhausted with such a long and hot day we had to experience. I am glad we all made it back safely to enjoy the rest of the day at COSMOS.

Late Blog

This is a blog written on July 17, 2008 about July 16, 2008. Yesterday was our field trip up to Mount Palomar Observatory. The observatory was fun and really interesting, but the trip up to the mountain was a drag. The bus had to stop numerous times to let the engine cool down. Then when we were going downhill, the breaks overheated, so that was another stop. The trip was really that bad.

fieldtrip, and salsa lessons!!

well yesterday we went to palomar observatory, and even though we had to stop almost every 10 minutes because there where problems with the bus, anyways we got there and it was so cool, we went into the museum and then we got a chance to see the telescope, it was amazing, so big!!!
we also went in like a kind of "cat walk" outside the observatory, and it was very high and almost everybody was scared including me :P, even though we had a little trouble on our way to the observatory i think it was worth it because i got to see and learn a lot :D
after we got back form the observatory we had dinner and then we moved on to the activities, i spent the whole time just dancing salsa
it was so fun, i liked it a lot and hopefully we get a chance to dance again tomorrow on the dance
;)

What's Up?

Well, I have to say I've enjoyed my time at cosmos so far. Our trip to the Palomar Observatory yesterday was pretty cool except for the long bus ride. The activities they have every night are pretty fun and there are tons of cool people to hang out with. I'm happy that we got to play basketball a couple times and hopefully they'll extend the boundaries a little bit more. Besides that, the guys in my suite are all pretty chill and we have some fun talks during floor time. Im looking forward to the movie this weekend and the rest of the program. Clustah 6 is the bombski

July 17

Yesterday my cluster took a field trip to Palomar Observatory. The bus ride up the mountains took nearly two hours because we had to stop countless times for the bus to cool down. However, once we arrived at the observatory, it was worth the long ride. The Palomar Observatory holds the Hale Telescope, once the world's biggest, and is privately owned by the California Institue of Technology. It was breathtaking to see all the taken pictures of outer space and to learn about how the Hale Telescope works. My project for class happens to be building a refracting and reflecting telescope.
The activities at night are fun as well. Yesterday, my friends and I played poker and ate salsa. I'm looking forward to learning more about telescopes and hanging out with my friends.

THEY are cool!! Malou is nice and understanding!! I enjoy the things we do in my cluster. The cluster is very outgoing and that's great! well sometimes i enjoy, even though we sometimes don't have the materials but it's ok i guess. Everything is pretty chill (sometimes too many restrictions) it's going great so far!!BTW some are the RAs are so nice!!! they should get a raise or something!! lol jk For instance Billy is so peaceful lol makes me want to be peaceful lol and Malou is so Friendly!! Mike is cool!! he is like the type of person u would want to go clubbin with lol

Week End

This weekend was cool we went to knotts and had so much fun. i got on the all the good rides and they were great. Most of the rides werent even scary mostly fun. Thank god Brinn changed the due date on our research project that takes some stress off of me.

1 week through

And so lately I have not posted for awhile obviously because of time constraints and other things I need to take care of. So from the last big even that happened was COSMOlympics, which was ridiculously fun. Cause the back of COSMOS is RIDUCULOUS. Anywho it was really exciting and I got to take to take center stage for a short while. I'm sort of use to these things so it was coolios. We didn't place, but we placed in my heart. I believe we were the most energetic and prideful, but that's just me. I wanted to participate in it, but its WHATEVZZZZ. Shoot gotta show my dancin skills cause I'm hot like fiiiiaaahhh. It was me, the MIKES' and Aaron, Mr. B-Boy to the mizzax. My grammar is horrible, but it makes this even more enjoyable to read.

The next day we went swimming at the pool. It was pretty fun even though I am not an experienced swimmer, but I had a good time give or take. It's still WHATEVVVVZZZZZZZZZ.

Saturday was really exciting because we got to go to Knotts. Even though it's one of those mediocre parks I really had a great time cause I had good friends with me: Ray, Jason, Alex, and Edwin. Somewhere in there Lost and Found came with us, but it was cool. He's cool ahaha. I loved the rides. I loved the funnel cake. It was uber exciting indeed.

Sunday we went to the beach, which was really fun. I really went far out in the water and almost drowned a couple times, pretty intense I might add. We were playing dodgeball and frisbee and some people were doing chicken fight. Ray and I also found a couple girlies drawing on the sidewalk with charcoal. They is uber pro o.O. I drew a Koffing from Poke'mon because I is cool xD. Besides all of that it was a pretty chill day. After that whole thing we had an intense and shortlived jell-o fight, but it was very memorable. It was like Battle Royale, except with jell-o. Good times, good times indeed.

Monday: Class was WHATEVVVZZZZZ. We had capture the flag that night and the other team CCCHHHEEEAATTTTEEEDDDD like BBBBRRRAAAZZZZYYYYY. Gah I was so angry, I hate cheaters.

Tuesday: We lost a very important person to our suite. I really miss him and I hope he is doing well. It's really terrible that he is not here. We also watched Anchorman, which was hilarious. Good times, good times.

Wednesday: So begins our first day of ASS ASS INATION !!!!!!!!!!! I am watching everyone and I trust no one. Thank you Mike (white dude) for the game. This will be an intense game indeed muwahahahahah. Today we are also heading to the Palomar Observatory, so we shall see how that fairs, but so far things have been great. Here goes one more week !

1st weeks done

!st weeks Done Hurrah!!!!!!!! its been a long and busy first week. Its pretty KOol. I had Fun and Finally played Basket Ball yesterday Yes!!! Iv done t00 much to write down so im not going to write it So bye

the first weekend

was so awesome!

Saturday knotts berry farm! heck yes. we went on a lotta ride like silver bullet, jaguar, montezuma's revenge, boomerang, etc. my group was me, sanlie, kevin, and keith. hahaha kevin and keith kept trying to win us the big elmo but they lost and ended up with 3 cookie monsters and 3 big birds. still awesome and cute (: played truth or dare on the bus on the way back, kinda awkward but it was fun

Sunday first laundry day :D it was intense, i spent all morning there. the roommates&i were just playing cards the whole time which helped the time go by. at 1ish we headed to the beach. my butt got all sandy by the time we got home which was extremely disturbing. JELLY FIGHT was so cool. i got a mouth full of it in the first 10 seconds though blech. in total, i took 3 showers on sunday (; im so clean

Now doing matlab.... im so confused

My Weekend

This weekend was really fun especially at Knotts Berry Farm. The Snoopy on ice was so cute! I got a cool light up stick and glow in the dark sunglasses. We had snack boxes. That was really nice to have. Yesterday I finished all my food because I really liked the dinner. I hope they have the same food again. Oh my gosh the jello fight was really messy. It was funny watching everyone. The beach was pretty relaxing. Even though I did not do as much reading as I would had liked I still enjoyed talking to everyone and listening to my music. This weekend I probably slipped three times on my crutches. It's okay though because my falls were kind of fun. I now know to be extra careful on slippery surfaces. Well COSMOS is so far so good. My weekend is over so back to class.

Beginning of the Second Week

I had a really fun weekend. Even though I'm extremely scared of roller coasters, I still had tons of fun at Knott's Berry Farm. I got soaked on the Big Foot Rapids ride. The beach was nice, but very crowded, and the jello fight was very funny to watch.
It was hard getting up this morning after sleeping in pretty late over the weekend. The lecture this morning was very interesting, and I'm learning a lot.

hey guysss,
im gonna try and put up a bunch of youtube videos from alll our adventures throughout the week.

get ready to be embarressed.

Laundry

Today was the first day that I had to do my own laundry by myself. It wasn't hard, but the new machines took some time getting used to. I really hope that none of my clothes shrunk. I guess that I'll find out during the week.

So far I think I think our events and meetings are are over-managed but besides that I thing everything is alright so far. Sometimes I think we should move our schedule back a couple hours. Every morning I wake up way to and I'm at eat at the cafetera what seems to be way too long/ seem like for ever and I feel like eighty years old by the time I'm done. For some sucky reason I always feel hungry after lunch no matter what I eat and I'm starving by dinner. After dinner I feel hungry at 9:00 and then try to find some way to fall asleep on the world's hardest bed but I would every thing has been good so far.

classmate's request

     Angela is my friend
She lets me use her blue sparkly pen
the sparkles remind me of the twinkling stars
the blue reminds me of the sky they hide in far from soil at night
she keeps me from getting lost and or out of sight
she calls me airplane freak and lets me hang with her asians sometimes

blah blah

in the computer lab once more,
this is really becoming a habit

so we tried to pop popcorn with cell phones
it didnt work

im sooo boreddd

:P

Hi

So yesterday we had Cosmolympics! That was really fun, as we prepared the dance to "We Fly High" for it for a long time. We were the loudest group, and we cheered a lot. I was pretty sure we won in the cheer category, but when it came to the events, we didn't place first. We lost in the quiz, we lost in the pie eating contest ( which I was part of.) and the other ones. We went pretty far in the water balloon toss though.

I had to be part of the pie eating contest and it was major painful because I didn't want to in the first place. The pie wasn't pie either. It was like dung pudding with whipped cream. :( and my friends kept on making me laugh so I had to spit it out back in the pie and it eventually got so nasty I had to spit my spitted out pie outside. AHHA. We lost the COSMOS Olympics, but it was great fun.

At night, during study time, since I finished all my work, we watched a movie in the lounge. It started off with only 6 of us in cluster 6, then it turned into some massive 50 people party all huddled around a small laptop. Sadly, it ran out of batteries, and the crowd went crazy :(

Then i slept.
But before I slept, as i was climbing the ladder, the rung thing fell off so i hurt myself pretty bad. It was painful. Cuts and rib was banged against bedpost so I lost my breath.

Ouch.

need a new one.

COMPUTER LAB!!! omg :O

yeiii!!! this is soo much fun i love popcorn!!!!
hahaha its not gonna work dude :o
hahaha :D
cluster six=] rocks!!!!!

cluster six!!!! :]

BALLIN!!!!!
Cosmos has been fun these few days. The bonfire on Wednesday was fun, talking to everyone and playing the 10 fingers game. Cosmolympics was also fun. even though we didn't win, we did good :). After that, everyone went to the common lounge and watch the 40 year old virgin ! hahaha i love that movie. mkayyy that's it for now lunch time!

<33

hahahahaha :D

u will never know who rocker girl is!!!

I NEED FUN

Today has been so mush fun. Even if we are walking like 10 miles every day back and forth from class to class. I love all the new people that I have meet here they are a grate bunch of individuals that just make my day. With out them I think that I would really like a animal within a cage that is trapped in it 24/7. mmmmm I am really hungry right now I am wondering what they are going to give for good today????? Well any ways I hope that we have fun on Saturday when we go to knots. AND REMEMBER WHAT HAPPENES AT COSMOS STAYS AT COSMOS!!!!! ^-^ =) =0 ooooooooo and one more thing why is it that the dance is going to have restriction that is just not cool this is a free country we all need our little fun. DON’T YOU ALL THINK =)

Cluster 6!

The Cosmolympics were fun yesterday. Our cluster was the loudest :) We definitely won the spirit portion. I'm looking forward to Knott's tomorrow.

The professor's lectures are interesting. Now I'm in the computer lab researching about sound waves.

a little more time in the womb and you'll be infants!

hey kiddy kats
i'm in what seems to be the 90th computer lab so far,
i swear we go to a different one EVERY TIME.
justin is creating his own "superhero" which really just looks like cartoon porn.
you can even make a midget superhero. thats nice...appealing to all the people, big and fetus-size.

Me and juan are feeling pretty powerful these days, knowing that we're the only seniors in our group of friends. we're also the only 17 year olds,
so we've made it clear that we're way past the little baby PG-13 movies.

its R-rated time.
sorry fetuses.

max has decided to make his own superhero too.
aka. little cartoon porn star.

i sense a little asian tension between Juan and the asians. Justin wanted to "personalize" his page and Juan goes,
"Lemme give you an asian cookie too so you can feel more at home."

HAHAHAHAHAH.

be back lata.

booooriiing!!!!

i dont know what topic im doing
!!! :(

computer lab AGAIN!!!!

mmmmmm blahhh :o

TGIF

Cosmos has been fun lately. I am glad that I have a better idea about what I am supposed to do my research project on. The professor's lecture today was actually interesting giving me a better understanding about how the solar system works. Waking up this morning was not too bad. I actually do not feel as tired as I have been lately. I had a good sleep. Cosmos Olympics was fun yesterday even though my cluster did not win. We still had a lot of spirit. Tomorrow we are going to Knotts Berry Farm. I hope that it will be fun and that I will be able to go on some rides! Go CLUSTER 6!

Cosmos, Day 5

Today is my fifth day at Cosmos, and even though there are definitely high points and low points to everyday, overall, I am definitely having a good time.
Everyone in my suite is really friendly, and I love hanging out with them. I enjoy the lectures given by the professors and teachers as well as the hands-on projects we get to experiment with. Furthermore, I enjoy meeting new people who share a dedication for math and science.
Waking up this early over the summer is a challenge and I’ve spent a lot of time walking to different classrooms and labs, and getting lost along the way a few times, but I’m getting used to this type of lifestyle.
All in all, the extra work and effort is definitely worth all I’m getting out of this program.

excited! [:

weeeeeell, lets see. this week has been so fun. a lot of new people! they are all super cool.
yesterday, the bonfire was great. I got to relax with all my friends after a long day of classes. i didnt make any s'mores because i was being too lazy.

today we presented our group essay, which in my opinion, i pretty much failed. i was overthinking which made me nervous. hopefully, it'll get better and as i bond with my cluster mates, i won't get as nervous.

anyways, im in class right now. "doing" research. the topic i chose for my individual essay is illusions. yeah, pretty awesome right? [:

--Angela Dinh
Hey, Its James Iv had some fun in my first week. im starting to get use to the schedule. Im meeting alot of new people. And making friends

Wowzahhh

I think todays been the best day so far

Im got to meet many more people in my cluster and i thought they were really shy
but ooo i was wrong

The best part was hanging out with all of them, cluster 6 has some of the most random people ever its so fun tho

Hearing Justin speak spanish was very interesting
i dont think ill ever hear an asian speak spanish again so of course i had to take the time to record it
I also learned some chinese words wich i already forgot

Juan cracks me up
hes very straightforward wich can be good or bad depending on how you take it
i love it though he keeps me entertained

Elysses birthday was nice
the pizzookies were yummy

The bonfire was amazing
that was the first time i had ever made a smore and it was pretty difficult for me
we had a cake for Elyssee
anybody could have some but u had to take a picture with her
it was hilarious
we took so much random pictures

The most random thing i saw today
was a buff guy with the hugest pecks ive ever seen
well actually he didnt have any muscles on his arms at all
it was all in the chest area
it was pretty disguisting

Cosmolympics tomorrow
were gonna kick some butt

emm well nightt

A few notes from Adam

Hey Cluster 6, I've got a few things now that you've all started posting:

  • If you are going to use your name to sign your posts, go ahead and just use your first name and last initial. You can change your displayed name by clicking on the Blogger Dashboard up at the top of the page (when you are logged in), then clicking the Edit Profile link. There is an option there to change your display name. Don't worry, we'll still know who you are. :)
  • This is your blog, so if you want to change the layout or color scheme, let me know and I can help you with it. Decide amongst yourselves what you want it to look like, then go ahead and meet me in my office and we can work on it. Blogger has a number of ready-made templates, and although we can't get too complicated, if you have some html skill you might be able to turn it into something great!
  • If any of your classmates/roommates/friends haven't received their invites, please send them my way. Thanks!

Blahblahblah

ah, my muscles aren't crying at all. Frisbee is too not hardcore for me to be sore :)

Hmm, so after I posted yesterday, we had our free time and played ultimate frisbee for rec. It was really fun and close.
But for today, we had our usual classes again and spent a little over four thousand hours on the comptuer. Doing research and all that.

I got this solar color temperature project. It was my 13th choice out of my 13 choices, but I guess I'm just going to stick with it.

People are staring at me.
I'll write more later or something

:O

Ok so this is later at night, and just back from the beach bonfire, which was much more fun than i thought it would be. Besides the super sandwiched bus, it was great. It's getting late, but it was exciting.

whoa guys,

i didnt know frisbee was so hardcore.
i saw you out there,
NO WONDER YOURE SORE.

speaking of hardcore,
i saw three kids playing with a rubix cube during "free time."

enough said.

Cluster 6

Today we learn how Uranus is discovered and how they used Newton's Law to discover Neptune. Here is an explanation for you guy that don't understand

Historically, Uranus was a planet that was first discovered in 1690 by man named John Flamsteed who at the time did not realize it as a planet, but rather another star (he labeled it 34 Tauri). Thereafter, it was frequently observed but disregarded and ignored. However, on March 13, 1781, an astronomer named William Herschel discovered Uranus with his telescope while surveying the sky. Upon this event, he named it "the Georgium Sidus," meaning the Georgian Planet to honor his patron, King George III of England. Another name for this new found planet was "Herschel." Later on, the name Uranus was proposed to conform to the tradition of naming newly discovered planets after Roman mythological gods.

The name officially came into use in 1850. Much like the discovery of Pluto, the search for a planet beyond Uranus began when mathematical calculations indicated that the orbit of Uranus did not behave in the way according to Newton's Law. Thus, astronomers concluded that there had to be a planet beyond Uranus because of a distortion in the planet's orbit. They were correct. On September 23, 1846, Johann Gottfried Galle (of the Berlin Observatory) and Louis d'Arrest (student of astronomy) became the first two people to observe the planet Neptune. They were successful not because they searched the entire heavens randomly, but by basing their observations around the area that Neptune was predicted to be. Urbain Jean Adams and Joseph Le Verrier had calculated where Neptune would be based on observations of Jupiter, Saturn and Uranus. It was fortunate that Galle and d'Arrest had scanned the skies within a small time margin from which the predicted locations were made. Neptune departs from the predicted orbit rather quickly and the planet would not have been found if the two astronomers had procrastinated (you see what could happen if you do?). After Neptune was discovered, the English and French battled over the right to name the planet, but in the end, credit for discovery was given to both sides.

hey...im the computer lab...again

this is just for you, dad.

So, I woke up this morning, late as per usual. me and my roomie are aware that it is SUMMER, human hibernation time.
oh man, this camp is already getting to me. using big words like hibernation?!!
so anyways, then i ate breakfast.
It brings a new meaning to breakFAST. like we eat FAST. i MADE a wafffle that says UCSD.

because my chest is bursting with school spirit.

you can thank the giant teddy bear made out of rocks for that.

oh YEAH. its my birfday. we're ordering giant Pizookies: one for me, two for the camp to share. and apparently having a bonfire tonight, so that should be hipsta.

okay so, i gotta do "research." aka. check my myspace.

<33

Today

The ultimate Frisbee yesterday was very fun. We had a huge game between to groups and it got pretty intense. One guy sacrificed his body for the team when he dove to catch the Frisbee on cement. There was a lot of smack talking going on which made it more fun. This morning I tried the pancakes. It was actually very delicious. Though I don't like eating dinner at 5:00pm it makes me eat more during breakfast. Today we had a lecture on Newton's laws which was very interesting except I was a little sleepy because of the ultimate Frisbee yesterday. I am looking forward to lunch and hope the bonfire tonight will be cool.

SUPER SORE

What day is it today? I believe July 9. Right now I am in a computer lab obviously typing up this blog. We just got done with an assignment about Waves and Stars that includes Kepler and Newton. It's pretty cool, but I want to do some hands on things right now. So far COSMOS is pretty fun. I made a whole load of friends *cheers* and it is pretty sweet. The food is great and UNLIMITED. MUWAHAHAHHAHAHA! The teachers and professors are really nice and helpful and I really respect that. They help with everything and do what they can to make sure we as students do a great job. My suite is the shizzle cause we is at 400 BLOCK which is BETTER ON TOP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Mike, our RA, is freaking ridiculous. I am really glad he is a RA. Our cluster RA's are really tight and cool too. This is really becoming a very fun and rewarding experience.

So anyways right now I am sitting down very sore and tired. I always thought Frisbee was kind of a joke game. Like how are you suppose to react to ------ Julio: "Mom I had a really big accident . . ." Mom: "What happened to you?!" Julio: "I broke my arm." Mom: "Doing what?! I need to check to see if everything is okay!!!!" Julio: ". . . Playing Frisbee . . ." Mom: " . . . " Mom: "You got to be kidding me. It's not funny to joke around like that. I was really worried. I hope you're having a good time, but I have to go now. Your sister is crying. Bye love you!" *CLICK* Yeah kind of weird right? But anywho frisbee is a very intense extreme game. We went crazy and were so competitive. Really good times. Well back to work! MMMMMMMOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOCCCCCCCOOOOOOOOOWWWWW!!!!!!!

4th day at cosmos

Walking for 30 min to get to a class tortures me but it's bearable.
lectures are mostly reviews, but it's going to get better.
Foods are ok, but i think i'm getting fat... : (

I'm so excited for the bonfire tonight!!!

Break

COSMOS as been very interesting. The activities are pretty fun here. We got to paint a flower pot which I cannot wait to see grow. Also, the food here at COSMOS is actually pretty good. Unfortunately, I keep on forgetting to grab an ice cream bar. Besides the food, the professors here are nice. We learn a lot everyday about waves and stars. Hopefully COSMOS will continue to be better. I appreciate all the help from the wonderful staff and students. =]

First Week at COSMOS

This is my first blog at COSMOS about my first week of COSMOS. The food is pretty good here and Cafe V is nice. Most of my classes are too far, but the classroom for my lectures from my professor is very nice and quite new. The chairs are the best, being extremely soft. The great thing is that the classroom is only about a five minute walk away from Cafe V, and a ten minute walk from my dorm. My roommate is a pretty good match. We don't seem to have many problems. The others in the suite is okay. My RA is really helpful and is really fun when we play games. The lectures aren't too bad. I would like the professors to explain a little bit better because he uses more advance math and science when lecturing. Thats all right now.
Thing about today was when we were coming up after classes had ended myself and the best group of friends that I made where having so much fun at a joke that I did. I had so much fun. Well till next time WALL-E =)

Hmm..

Well its only the second day and it already feels like forever,
we've walked soo much that my shoes are starting to tear,
The best part i think so far was presenting articles in front of the class,
i got meet Justin who is really random and funny in a good way
Im so sleepy!
Elysse made me stay up, yea she forced me so ive been trying not to doze off
but its ok
and tomorrow is her birthday and were gonna have huge cookies for dinner :D

Today's pretty random
so im sitting next to max and hes like looking at these weird pictures of cats,
apparantly hes very fond of cats
Brinn catches Elysse on her myspace, and now were all writing blogs

Oh yes and i got to take a picture with the giant teddy bear sculpture made out of rocks

FINE

well apparently, "blow a gasket" is a wierd phrase so thank you Max.

I'm gonna...flip an erik if 4 o clock doesnt come in like .0-4982342 seconds.

Release Therapy

Today I spent three hours in the UCSD library researching electromagnetic waves. No matter how interesting this may seem to you it gets kind of dry after a while. So to lighten the load of a three page paper on the glories of gamma rays and electrons particle-wave duality I looked at some pretty intersting LOL cats, shar pei puppies, youtube videos and facebook. Soon the haze in my mind clear after a couple good laughs from kittens with interesting quotes like "U don't like breakfast in bed? Fine. Give ded skwirrel back, then, plz." I thought that was kinda cute. My cat used to do that when we went out to my country house in Long Island (if any of you West Coasters know what that is... YAYYYY NYC! =) ....) Sooo yeah. I hope tonight has a fun program like painting pots with patrick star and spongebob on them to help relieve the stress.
i think today was a good day i really liked breakfast and lunch was even better, even though i go to bed at exactly 11, i have trouble waking up the next day!! :p
Today after breakfast we went to a discovery lecture in this amazing room, it looked like a mini movie theater it was cool. There we had a guest speaker named Jeanne Ferrante, she was an associate dean here at ucsd. She gave us a presentation about high performance computing, and the topic title was "Think Parallel", she explained us how we could do different tasks at the same time and also she told us about how there is arising this problem of multichord computers, and how it is causing a great controversy, in the computer science field. I thought this lecture was pretty interesting, because I had no idea about all that is happening with computers nowadays. After the lecture we went to a classroom with one of our teachers. There we did like a small presentation, depending on the topic we picked. My team picked the one about solar power. After our presentations we went to lunch, and then we went to the library. I was so impressed with the structure of the building, it was really cool. There we had to do some research on the internet about another project we are doing, my team's topic is electromagnetic radiation. We looked for it on the internet and gathered information. Overall I think it was a good day, and I am very happy that every day I'm learning something new and making new friends!! :)

oookay so

So I've been sitting in this underground computer lab for 3 hours and I think I might blow a gasket. I'm pretty sure thats a real word. So yeah, I feel like today has been one long...walk. Its like a day at Disneyland minus all the rides and people dressed as characters. And its funny because we keep walking to ALL THE SAME PLACES BACK AND FORTH. Theres either needs to be some major VAN-age or BUS-age going on or we all need bikes. there was a sweet low rider outside one of the bijillion buildings.

So yeah,
I painted a pot last night.

That's all you really need to know.

7/8...?

The first full day in COSMOS was really fun!
We did a lot of new things, and I learned how to play mafia game. It is FUN but gives me a headache.
Second day is ok too. I will be used to this program soon...
Anyway, we are at the library right now to write a paper about stars and waves.
Time goes too slow in library. Come 4 o clock!

Today

Today was a fine day. Breakfast was the same as yesterday. We went to the Discovery lecture, which I really enjoyed because it was a break from the usual lectures. It help me understand more about the computer world. Later we had to teach the rest of our class about the universe and black holes. It was really difficult to explain such a complex topic. Then we went to the computer lab to write essays about the HR Diagram which illustrates the life of a star. I enjoyed the after class activities yesterday. The soccer was fun and I hope to play basketball today.

****JULY OCHO****

Today i woke up really tired. I think its because i stayed up till about twelve. After my shower i headed to breakfast. The breakfast was good. It was a simple sausage egg and hash browns. The lecture was really and the activity they had for some of the students made it more interesting. After the lecture we headed to a lab and we were assigned to read an article and give a speech to the class about it. It was hard to give a speech on it because there were so many contradictions to our subject which was how to blow up a super nova. Everyone elses speeches were better. For the group essay we were assigned photon. It was not that hard to come up with the essay and the essay was pretty much finished in about one hour tops.
It was much easier to sleep the second night compared to the first, but at the same time, it was harder to wake up. I woke up to my extremely energetic roommate getting ready to go on the morning run, while I still had my head in my pillow. But thanks to my superpowers, I got ready fast and teleported to Cafe Ventana for a quick breakfast. The menu was the same, and despite it only being two days, I found myself hoping that we get something new by the end of the week. I wasn't feeling very hungry, so I just grabbed a plate of eggs and sausages.
Instead of the usual lectures, all the clusters got together and went to a Discovery Lecture! I was impressed overall, and it brought me to realize some of the problems in the computer world today. The speaker had a clear, ringing voice. After that, we formed back into our clusters and read articles that I actually found interesting! Mine was on rogue waves, which are gigantic 85ft tall waves that randomly come out of nowhere and blow everything up. Each group within the cluster had to present a separate article, each on separate scientific phenomena. Time flew by, before I found myself dragging myself back to Cafe Ventana for lunch. The route to the study places and computer labs back to our dormitories and food places is the longest, most tiresome, sweat inducing, everythingasiofhqwoinboinwqoirhqwoithnkansfmnaflwhoqfihfalksnfakslfn road in the world. After what seemed like an eternity walking back, I finally climbed up the steps and into Cafe Ventana. The only thing worth mentioning about lunch is how I was scolded for drinking Mountain Dew by all my "eating mates", because it had an inordinate amount of caffeine, sugar, and Yellow 5 (which is said to have strange effects). I had to promise not to drink it.
Now I'm in this huge library of UCSD (after walking and sweating once again), and after writing a group essay on photons, I guess I'm writing on my blog.

THE END.

Day 1

Hi everybody. If you have any questions about today's material you can ask me. Tomorrow, we will be starting the scientific communication course. If you want to get an early stat, our cluster will have the following vocabulary terms:

1. Hertzsprung-Russell diagram

2. Black hole

3. Electromagnetic radiation

4. Photon

5. Optics

6. Wave

We'll also be looking at these articles and more:

  1. Rogue Waves http://discovermagazine.com/2004/jul/rogue-waves
  2. How to blow up a star http://www.sciam.com/article.cfm?id=how-to-blow-up-a-star

Welcome to the Cluster 6 blog!

Hello students, parents, and guests, and welcome to the official blog for UCSD COSMOS Cluster 6: Exploration of Physics of Waves and Stars. The intent for this site is for the students to use it as an online journal to keep the world up to date with everything they are learning and doing here at COSMOS. Parents, check back often to see what your students are saying! Each student in the cluster will post to this specific blog; if you would like to check out the other clusters, we have links to them on the right side of the page.

Students, you aren't expected to post every single day, but we'd like you to try to post at least twice a week. The posts themselves don't have to be too long and detailed, but you should try to write at least a paragraph. You can also post pictures if you'd like to. Please keep in mind that these blogs will be monitored by staff and you are expected to uphold the COSMOS standards as outlined in your student handbook.

If you need any help posting, Blogger's help site is here or you can come ask Adam in the COSMOS Office.

Have fun!
